Google is seeking help from children to improve its self driving cars, as the company is teaching its self-driving prototype vehicles to better recognize children.

Kids Help Improve Google's Self Driving Cars

During Halloween, the search giant had kids dressed in various Halloween costumes in its head quarters and it asked the kids to hang out around the parked cars in order to provide the sensors and software with extra practice at recognizing children.

Google said: "We teach our cars to drive more cautiously around children.

"When our sensors detect children -- costumed or not -- in the vicinity, our software understands that they may behave differently.

"Children's movements can be more unpredictable -- suddenly darting across the road or running down a sidewalk -- and they're easily obscured behind parked cars."

The company has been testing its self driving car for a quite some time now, which includes Lexus RX450h SUVs equipped with autonomous software as well as a gumdrop-shaped vehicle which was designed by Google itself.

The vehicle does not have any pedals or a steering wheel and it only consists of sensors and software.

It was previously reported that Google is speed up the effort to introduce self-driving cars by 2020 and started talks with various automakers including General Motors, Ford Motor, Toyota Motor, Daimler and Volkswagen.

Google is one of the tech giants that have started testing its self driving cars. However, according to reports Apple and now Samsung is also planning to venture into the autonomous vehicle bandwagon.
