According to statistics of Sri Lanka’s customs, its volume of goods trade was USD16.91 billion from January to July in 2016, down 2.5% year-on-year (the same below). Exports fell by 2.6% to USD6.0 billion, and imports fell by 2.5% to USD10.91 billion. The trade deficit was USD4.91 billion, down 2.4%.

In July, Sri Lanka's volume of goods trade grew by 0.5% to USD2.48 billion. Exports grew by 10.3% to USD0.99 billion and imports fell by 5.1% to USD1.49 billion. And the trade deficit was USD0.50 billion, down 23.6%.

Since January to July, bilateral trade volume between China and Sri Lanka fell by 2.8% to USD2.39 billion. Sri Lanka's exports to China fell by 51.0% to USD0.11 billion. It accounted for 1.8% of Sri Lanka's overall export, down 1.9%. And Sri Lanka's imports from China grew by 10.8% to USD2.28 billion. It accounted for 20.9% of Sri Lanka's overall imports, up2.5%. Sri Lanka's trade deficit with China grew by 18.6% to USD2.17 billion.

China was the 10th export market of Sri Lanka and its largest source of imports up to the end of July in 2016.
